The quantum of our hunger varies every time we eat. That is from every morning to afternoon to night.
Today morning, we may not be having the same quantum of hunger, which we had yesterday morning.
So, while eating we should not keep standards like, that if I eat Idly I will eat 5 or if I eat Dosa, I will eat 4, etc.
How much should we eat depends on the quantum of hunger we have at that time.
It's not a question of reducing the quantity of food we eat.
If 6 Idlys can satisfy our hunger we should eat 6. If just with 3 Idlys our hunger is satisfied, we should stop with that.
And, if we don't feel hungry, we should not eat at all. The reason being as we have already seen,
"Athiyaadare Amruthavoo Visha"
ಅತಿಯಾದರೆ ಅಮೃತವೂ ವಿಷ
Literal Meaning - "If taken in excess, even Amrutha (divine nectar) is poison".
If nectar becomes poison when consumed in excess, definitely food and even water will also become poison when consumed in excess.
To the best of my knowledge there are two reasons why we get disease, they are:
1. Mind, which has tension, fear and confusion is the source of 90% of the diseases.
In Alopathy they call it as 'Psychosomatic Disorder'.
In this word,
'Psycho' means mind,
'somatic' means body, and
'disorder' means disease.
That is imbalance in the mind will create physical disease in the body.
2. Indigestion due to over eating.
