Our point of discussion is disease and cure. Only when you fail to cure a disease in an organ by your medicine, surgery steps in. Surgery means a mechanical removal of an ailing organ or a part of an organ. Instead of curing a disease in an organ the organ itself is removed. For example, unable to control or cure a bleeding disease in the uterus of a woman, surgery removes the uterus itself. The reason given is that it may endanger the patient’s life sooner or later.

If this principle is applied in general, to a human being as a whole, i.e., to prevent him/ her from falling sick in future, he/ she can be killed the moment he/ she is born! This is the only preventive treatment that is in store for the modern medicine for the future. It is already going on in the form of abortions which is termed as “Medical Termination of Pregnancy”

The longevity is ensured only after the advent of modern medicine. Is it not a fact?

It is only an act of imagination. Longevity is ensured at the cost of quality of life. For example, a heart patient is restricted from his activities; he is advised against usual work; food intake is restricted; he is also warned of the fatal consequence if he gets emotional. Can any one suppress an emotion? Will not an individual suffer more harm by not letting out his emotion? After all, is not emotion spontaneous? A person without emotions is considered as good as dead. As far as modern medicine is concerned even lying in coma is considered as longevity.

There is a drug group called “anti-inflammatory drugs”. They also reduce pain by reducing the inflammation. So, it is not just the analgesics with which they reduce the pain. Modern medicine also applies the scientific method in controlling the pain, don’t you think so?

'Inflammation' means a collective defence against a foreign substance, by our body system. A damaged portion in our own self, which is not harmonious with our system, is eliminated by a process called inflammatory process. If this process is interfered with, by administering anti inflammatory drugs, we begin to harm our body. In future, we will be only a bundle of diseases, the worst of which being gout and rheumatoid arthritis.

How do you then account for the good effects of analgesics?

Analgesics block the pain sensation from reaching the brain. This is neither relief nor cure. It not only blocks the pain sensation from the affected parts of the body, but dulls the overall sensitivity of our sensory system. It is dangerous because, pain is the most important sign of a disease and by suppressing it from reaching the brain, the disease is only going to get aggravated silently, without the knowledge of the brain.

Pain is the foremost symptom of a disease and it is directly proportional to the gravity of the disease. Pain restricts the normal movement and functional activities of an organ. In the absence of pain normal movements are continued as usual and the unrestricted activity worsens the condition of the already damaged organ. This is the reason why analgesics are required in very increasing number, power and potency as days go by, reaching a stage where no pain-killer however powerful is enough. It is at this stage, the real knock out drugs like morphine, pethadine etc, are administered.
